A Honeycrisp Apple is a cross between the Macoun and the Honeygold apple varieties.  The Honeycrisp Apple was actually developed at the University of Minnesota – another reason to love the Midwest!

Honeycrisp Apples are known as one of the sweetest apple varieties available today, but did you know that they are a great source of fiber, Vitamin C, & Vitamin A? These apples are ideal for the family fruit bowl – fill yours up this week!

Store your Honeycrisp Apples in the refrigerator – this will keep them fresh & juicy.  When selecting, search for firm apples that lack bruises.  While the red & yellow skin may be unique, this apple is versatile in a variety of recipes.

Grilled Honeycrisp Apples

Ingredients 

  • 4 apple Honeycrisp
  • 2 tbsp cinnamon
  • 2 tbsp sugar

Instructions 

  • Preheat grill. Wash, dry, & core the Honeycrisp Apples. Place each apple on the center of an aluminum foil sheet.
  • In a small bowl, combine the cinnamon & sugar. Spoon 1 tbsp of the cinnamon/sugar mixture in the core of the each of the apples.
  • Wrap the apples in aluminum foil & grill over medium heat for 20-25 minutes or until apples are tender. Unwrap carefully to let steam escape. Serve warm.

Notes

You'll also need a few sheets of aluminum foil for this recipe.
