Pears are an essential fruit for any Produce Mom. The sweet & juicy fruit is packed with essential vitamins & minerals that add a delicious flavor to any dish!

I am often asked, “How to you know when a pear is ripe”? It is as easy as checking the neck of the fruit! Pears are one of the few fruits that don’t ripen on trees, which is why the flavor continues to mature after harvested.  The color is not always a good indication for ripeness because most varieties have little color change.  The BEST way is to Check the Neck™ – apply gentle pressure to the top of the pear with your thumb.  It the fruit gives, it is ripe!

Once your pear is ripe, try this tasty recipe adopted from USA Pears: Bartlett Pear Quesadilla.
