I’m always looking for ways to help consumers learn to select, store and serve more fruits and veggies – and my recent visit to Tanimura & Antle did just that.

If you’re not familiar with this industry leader, Tanimura & Antle is one of the largest independent lettuce growers in the United States. Their farms span more than 35,000 acres of rich, fertile fields and they ship a full line of premium fresh produce throughout North America, Europe and Asia.

Located in California’s Salinas Valley, the extraordinary team at Tanimura & Antle is best known for their Artisan Lettuce (Petite Oak, Petite Gem and Petite Tango varieties combined). However, I was grateful for the opportunity to also share inspiring stories about the technology, skill and care that go into producing their many acclaimed products. Their dedication to traceability and the sophistication of their operations is truly remarkable.

To say I was impressed with their operations and culture is an understatement. I’ve always loved Tanimura & Antle, but after my visit, I’m even more confident consumers will have a positive experience with their products. This short video of Brian Antle, Lettuce Production Manager, highlights the amazing passion and respect that is embedded in Tanimura & Antle’s culture.

The more consumers know about how food gets to the shelves of their local grocery, the more thought they put into selecting what they put on their tables. Tanimura & Antle vegetables have been taken care of from seed to the store shelf and I am honored to be able to help spread knowledge about their brand.

The Produce Mom Loves September

September is an exciting month in the produce department. With so many items in season, plenty of fruits and veggies are available and affordable. It’s also Fruits and Veggies – More Matters Month as well as Organics Month!

The Produce Mom is busy helping consumers get excited about September by spreading the word on these two areas of industry focus.

As a Produce for Better Health Ambassador, I’m urging my followers to get out and try more produce. Everyone should strive to fill half your plate with fruit and veggies and all forms count towards that goal – fresh, frozen, canned, dried and 100% juice. In addition, I’m continuing to spread the message that more matters.

Since September is also Organics Month, I’d like to thank partners of The Produce Mom that grow organically. I’m encouraging consumers that aren’t typically organic buyers to give organic a try.

Viva Tierra is just one of The Produce Mom partners that offer organics. “We’re thrilled to partner with The Produce Mom. We really admire the work Lori has done to reach out to consumers to promote fresh produce choices and healthy eating, especially for moms and kids,” said Addie Pobst, Organic Integrity & Logistics Coordinator for Viva Tierra.

Finally, thank you to all The Produce Mom partners for your dedication to our industry and your support of efforts to help families eat more fruits and veggies!

Meet Me at #FreshSummit

Have you made your reservations yet for the PMA (Produce Marketing Association) Fresh Summit? This year’s Convention and Expo is scheduled for Thursday, October 16 through Saturday, October 19. I’m looking forward to connecting with many industry leaders and sharing ideas on consumer trends and educational collaborations.

This year, I’m honored to participate as a judge for the Sensory Experience Contest. The contest gives exhibitors the opportunity to showcase their product in an innovative, produce-centric recipe. I love that one of the main criteria for judging is the recipe must be produce-centric. Any ingredient can be used, however it must be obvious that produce is the star of the dish!

After you schedule your trip, be sure to contact me so we can find a time to get together. I always look forward to meeting with existing Partners and friends as well as establishing new relationships with industry leaders like you!

Want to meet up with The Produce Mom in Anaheim? Contact me here.

I’m teaming up with some of my partners for a #FreshSummit twitter party. It will be live from the expo floor! Stay tuned for more details.

See you in October at PMA #FreshSummit!

xoxo,

Produce Mom
