How to Make the Fruit Taco Shell

The trick to making delicious fruit tacos is to sweeten your taco shell. You could use crepes or even slices of sponge cake as your shell, but we decided to go with sweetened flour tortillas. This is a really easy process. Simply melt some butter with a bit of cinnamon and sugar. Then apply this mixture to the inside of a warm tortilla.

Just like regular tacos, fruit tacos can be filled with a variety of items. There are no certain fruits that you must use or shouldn’t use. Get creative and choose whatever combination of fruit you like best. We went with

How To Make Fruit Tacos

  • Place the number of tortillas you are using to create your tacos in the microwave or skillet to warm up.
  • Next, melt butter in a microwave safe bowl.
  • Mix together the cinnamon and sugar.
  • Brush the tortilla on one side with butter and sprinkle with the cinnamon and sugar mixture.
  • Place in a taco older or use the back side of a muffin tin to hold your taco shell in place.
  • Cut up your choice of fruit. While this recipe calls for strawberries, mango, kiwi, and blueberries, you can substitute whatever fruit you you have on hand.
  • Put half of the strawberries in a blender or food processor and purée with a dash of cinnamon and sugar to make “strawberry salsa”. You may need to add a tablespoon of water to help blend.
  • Melt butter in a small sauce pan. Add cinnamon and sugar.
  • In a cast iron skillet, warm the tortillas. Once warmed, use a pastry brush to apply butter, cinnamon, and sugar mixture to one side of each tortilla.
  • Add 2 tablespoons of whipped cream cheese to each tortilla. Drizzle honey over cream cheese.
  • Add fruit and drizzle with “strawberry salsa.”

Fruit Tacos

These sweet dessert tacos can be filled with your choice of fruit. Topped with a strawberry "salsa" and served in sweetened, soft tortilla shells.

Ingredients 

  • 4 flour tortillas soft
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 3 tbsp sugar
  • 8 tbsp whipped cream cheese
  • 1 tbsp honey
  • 1/2 cup strawberry
  • 1/2 mango
  • 1 kiwi
  • 1/4 cup blueberries

Instructions

Notes

These fruit tacos can be made a variety of ways. Feel free to add whatever fruit sounds best to you! You can also substitute whipped cream for the whipped cream cheese. Get creative and enjoy!

  1. Wow. What a great idea. I love tacos and what a great spin on an already awesome dish.

    I think I will try the shell in the cinnamon sugar and butter- as if I was crying the shell in the grease.
