There are several ways to cut a sweet potato. You’ll determine which cut to use based on how you plan to prepare it.

Whichever method you are using, you’ll want to follow these general guidelines:

  • Use a large, sharp knife and a large cutting board.
  • Rinse and lightly scrub sweet potatoes before peeling to remove dirt.
  • Rinse sweet potato flesh with cool water to prevent browning.
  • Try to keep your cuts as even as possible. This isn’t just for aesthetics, your sweet potato pieces will cook more evenly if they are all similar in size.

How To Wedge A Sweet Potato

Step 1: Wash and peel your sweet potato.

Step 2: Slice off a small piece of the rounded edge so that the sweet potato sits on your cutting board without rocking back and forth.

Step 3: Place the sweet potato cut side down and use your knife to cut lengthwise through it, creating rounds.

Step 4: Take each round and cut twice lengthwise to create wedges.

Sweet potato wedges are great for making sweet potato fries!

How To Dice A Sweet Potato

Step 1: Wash and peel your sweet potato.

Step 2: Slice off a small piece of the rounded edge so that the sweet potato sits on your cutting board without rocking back and forth.

Step 3: Place the sweet potato cut side down and use your knife to cut lengthwise through it, creating rounds.

Step 4: Take each round and cut twice lengthwise. Turn and cut the other direction several times creating even cubes.
